We all live for the weekend. Those two or three days of the week in which you can celebrate your freedom from a 9 – 5 or classroom blab and unwind however you choose. Making a weekday just as exciting comes down to a few things, such as loving what you do, being passionate and also preparation. If you do these 5 things to get your mornings started for this coming week and make them habitual, things should flow much easier.

Plan from the night before: You have heard this before, but planning your day out can make things a lot less stressful. You will always know your next move instead of procrastinating about what to do next. Prioritize by putting hardest tasks first to get them out the way instead of putting them off for 4:55pm. This will help alleviate your stress level throughout the day knowing the hardest tasks are complete.

Get a good night’s rest: Waking up groggy and lacking enough rest will not work in your favor no matter what your morning routine entails. They say 8 hours of sleep is optimal, but different times work for different people. Just ensure you are getting enough sleep to make you be your best.

Begin with some motivational reading: Starting off your morning with something inspiring and motivational from a great thought leader or a simple quote from BrainyQuote can go a far way. Nothing long, 5 – 20 minutes of reading should do the trick.

Try a few minutes of meditation or yoga: It has been proven that meditation and yoga calms the mind, relaxes the body, hence relieving stress. Starting off a day like this, especially when you have difficult tasks ahead can give you clarity, peace of mind and help you be more decisive.

Eat or drink something healthy: Many people reach for their coffee pots first thing in the morning. However, substituting this bean with some green tea or a protein shake can go a far way in improving your mood and energy throughout the day. Plus, not to mention the long term health benefits.

These are just some of the habits I try to adapt, sometimes I am consistent, other times I am not. But adapting these habits should help you to not only look forward to the weekend, but a weekday as well.

How do you prepare for your work day? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. Hi Dave. Thank you for connecting with me. Love the idea for your blog! To motivate myself I also consider our limited time, which breaks down what is really important. I also love your personal style. Look forward to following more.
